The Migration, Integration &
Social Connections Research Team
at Queen Margaret University.

Our main project, New Scots: A Pathway to Social and Economic Inclusion, has now come to an end, as of December 2023. You can check out all of the findings and reports from this project on the dedicated project page. Papers based upon this research will follow in 2024. Make sure to follow IGHD on X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and Facebook for updates on new work from members of the research team.

We are a team of researchers based at the Institute for Global Health & Development at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.

We develop innovative tools and produce research to explore the role of social connections in people’s integration journeys. Our Social Connections Mapping Tool is a methodology aimed at gaining a closer understanding of the social relationships that people draw upon to promote their own wellbeing. Participatory workshops identify social connections perceived as most relevant in a particular context. These identified connections form the basis of the anonymous survey, that allows for an analysis of contact, trust and reciprocity.
